Walking embodiment of boozy Southern grit Amy Adams to play Janis Joplin
In a recent interview with Fearnet, Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey casually mentioned that he’s developing a Janis Joplin biopic starring Amy Adams, to be helmed by City Of God director Fernando Meirelles. Last night, Deadline confirmed that, yes, Adams is indeed set for the role, and although there’s no studio involved yet, if it goes through it would make Adams the first actress to successfully get a Joplin biopic off the ground after what seems like decades of false starts. It would also make her one of the unlikeliest, considering Adams is made of starlight and primrose and Janis Joplin regularly bathed in Southern Comfort and vomit. Of course, she’s no more unlikely a candidate than Zooey Deschanel, whom Vulture points out is also listed as playing Joplin on the project’s IMDB page. What, Reese Witherspoon passed?
