This morning Roseanne Barr tweeted what was, even by the low standards of her own Twitter account, a uniquely bad and tasteless joke. (Here it is: “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” meaning Obama administration advisor Valerie Jarrett.) She pretty quickly deleted the tweet, apologized for it as “in bad taste,” and declared she is leaving Twitter. But the show’s consulting producer Wanda Sykes still took the incident as a fine opportunity to step away from the show:
The ugliness of the real Roseanne’s pro-Trump rhetoric, glossed over as a sort of earned economic distress on the show, may finally be proving too much for its talented cast and crew. Co-showrunner Whitney Cummings has already left the show, although she says it was not for political reasons, and it’s not hard to imagine there being a larger exodus at some point.
