Warner Bros. considering remakes of Lethal Weapon, The Wild Bunch, pretty much anything else it has in its library

A police procedural about two detectives, dissimilar in their personalities and working methods, who nevertheless get results. It’s the sort of pitch that would get you ejected immediately from a studio lot, so patently ridiculous is its concept. (“Why wouldn’t their commanding officer just reassign them to someone more complementary?” is the last echo you’d hear before your typewriter is tossed clattering to the asphalt.) So it’s perhaps no surprise that Lethal Weapon—the only successful movie to ever adopt this crazy storyline, ever—is among the many titles now being considered for a reboot at Warner Bros.

It’s all part of the studio’s Miramax-like strategy to reorganize in the wake of departing executive VP Jessica Goodman, who’s leaving the nest and abandoning the many remake eggs she was squatting on to be snatched up by modern, ravenous mongooses who can’t wait to crack them open and drink deep of their delicious, protein-rich brand recognition. Among them: The Wild Bunch, Westworld, and previously threatened titles like The Dirty Dozen, Oh God, and Tarzan, all of which have been presaged for years now but have yet to come to pass. Ever helpful, The Hollywood Reporter has various suggestions for how the studio can further them along, offering plans to update Lethal Weapon (Stick Jeremy Renner in there!), Westworld (Make it a “big-idea robot movie”—like Transformers!), and The Wild Bunch (Hire Danny Boyle and Aaron Sorkin!), all of which amount to enabling.
