An idea-starved Warner Bros. looks off into the night, desperate for another great movie idea. “Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where are you?” it asks, praying for a response. “We need some help from you now.”
It has been almost a year since we last reported on Warner Bros.’ attempts to reboot the Scooby-Doo movie series, and not much has changed since then. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. is just now in the “early stages” of a full-on Scooby-Doo reboot—or “Scooby-boot”—that will completely jettison the established canon of the Freddie Prinze Jr. originals. This is pretty much exactly what we said last year, but Deadline’s report suggests that any movement that the project made before now has been taken back, which makes this a Scooby-boot of the Scooby-boot.
That’s almost literally all we know at the moment, but thanks to our inexplicable powers of foresight, we’re able to predict what the new movie will be about. Titled The Amazing Scooby-Doo, it will tell a new origin story about the first time doofy jock Fred and his girlfriend Daphne met a nerd named Velma and a high-functioning burnout named Shaggy. Scooby himself won’t be a talking dog, but a highly advanced artificial intelligence called S.C.O.O.B.Y. that accidentally gets installed on Shaggy’s phone when he breaks into a secret lab disguised as a haunted house. Also, the Mystery Machine will be a Camaro and Shaggy will be played by Michael B. Jordan. It will be the highest-grossing film of all time and it will sweep the Academy Awards in 2016.
