If you haven’t purchased a copy of any of the Harry Potter movies on DVD, you now have about two months to do so (if that’s what you want). Taking a page out of the Disney handbook on supply and demand, Warner Bros. has announced that it will stop shipping all titles in the Harry Potter franchise beginning Dec. 29, eventually removing them from the shelves using some sort of disappearing spell that someone who’s read the Harry Potter books or seen a Harry Potter movie could probably reference right now. Those who haven’t would probably just try to play it off by turning it into a metatextual comment like some kind of jackass. Anyway, the looming moratorium extends to even Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 and the Complete 8-Film Collection box set, both of which see release on Nov. 11, with the studio’s artificially created limited supply no doubt driving their sales even further through the roof. You will, however, still be able to download digital copies of the film—and of course, once again following the Disney strategy, all of these movies will be collected in some sort of special limited-edition, over and over again, for the rest of our natural lives and beyond.
