Warning: Fred has a 3-D movie
When I spoke to Lucas Cruikshank last year, the impressively even-keeled creator of spastic YouTube sensation “Fred” suggested he was savvy enough to recognize a growing Fred fatigue, and made intimations that he was looking to branch out before pop culture turned on him en masse, as it had so many novelty characters before him. But not this year, apparently: The Hollywood Reporter says that Night Of The Living Fred, a follow-up to Nickelodeon’s Fred: The Movie, is currently in the works under Lionsgate, Varsity Pictures, and The Collective—a project that will bring the Fred character to actual movie theaters for the first time, where his rubber-faced antics will be fleshed out into immersive, unavoidable 3-D. There are no plot details at the moment, though the title certainly hints at a variation on the standard zombie apocalypse, one that finds the earth collapsing under wave upon wave of shrieking, manic man-children. Which, come to think of it, sounds like a fitting Judgment Day for all our cultural sins.
