Back in the late ‘90s, before Jon Brion and Maya Rudolph and all manner of other people came into their lives, Fiona Apple and Paul Thomas Anderson dated. They broke up, as most couples do, and now, in 2013, they can apparently at least tolerate each other again, as Anderson just directed Apple’s lovely new video. “Hot Knife” has Apple playing timpani, beautifully enunciating, and singing in a stark and dramatically lit room. It’s below, and it really is pretty great.
