Watch a trippy video for the modern string piece The National’s Bryce Dessner wrote for Kronos Quartet

Guitarist and composer Bryce Dessner is half of one of the two sets of brothers in The National, but he’s also an accomplished composer who has received commissions from Chicago’s Eighth Blackbird, The Brooklyn Academy Of Music, and Carnegie Hall. His first string quartet, "Aheym," was a composition for the world-renowned Kronos Quartet and debuted in 2009. Now there’s an accompanying video for that piece, created by Dessner’s friend and collaborator Matthew Ritchie, who had some of his dense and prismatic paintings animated to contrast the churning strings. It’s a 10-minute trip through an advanced version of the iTunes visualizer, available to watch via NPR.
