Downward Dog may be on its last leg. Lucas Neff—who plays the boyfriend of human heroine Nan (Allison Tolman)—sent out a plea on Twitter encouraging people to watch tonight’s episode of the talking pup comedy, given that ABC is about to decide whether or not to stick with it. The series, created by Samm Hodges and Michael Killen, is on just its fourth episode.
ABC showed no mercy this year when it came to comedies, cancelling the likes of Last Man Standing, Imaginary Mary, Dr. Ken, and The Real O’Neals. As Neff notes, Downward Dog does have critical approval. Ours wrote that the show has “an obedience school’s worth of obstacles, really, but a game cast—including a beyond personable dog—helps Downward Dog clear most of those hurdles.” We’ve reached out to ABC to see if the network has any comment on its status.
