Watch former figure skater Midori Ito go for gold in the new video from Roomrunner
Roomrunner, the Dischord and Touch And Go-influenced Baltimore group led by former Double Dagger drummer Denny Bowen, really has its metaphorical nose to the grindstone. Following the release of 2012’s Super Vague EP, the group has basically been on one long tour. It’s gone out with Metz, Sleep, and Speedy Ortiz, and has upcoming dates with Pissed Jeans and Marnie Stern, all of which are listed below.
All those shows and songs and sweaty moments have built up to the upcoming release of Roomrunner’s first full-length, Ideal Cities, May 14. Pitchfork premiered the first single from the record, “Weird,” but The A.V. Club has the totally tripped out video for the track. Directed by Quebecois artist Rob Feulner, the clip features grainy VHS footage of former figure skater Midori Ito, the first woman to land the triple-triple combination in competition and the first to ever perform the triple axel. In the clip, she’s competing for the 1989 NHK Trophy, which she would ultimately win.
