Watch Liam Neeson play (checks notes) "Nels Coxman" in snowplow thriller Cold Pursuit

Liam Neeson’s wintry new action film has been on our radars for a while now. The prospect of seeing his “honest snowplow driver” take on a Tesla-driving vegan drug dealer named Viking sounded too good to be true. Well, it turns out it gets even better. Not only is Neeson’s character named “Nels Coxman,” but the film’s title has changed from Hard Powder to Cold Pursuit, which sounds like a movie Kramer would go see on Seinfeld.

Hans Petter Moland’s movie—an adaptation of his own 2014 Norwegian film, In Order Of Disappearance—follows Neeson’s upright Nels as he systematically slaughters the faux-hawked goons of Viking’s regime after they murder his son. Its first trailer finds a friend asking Nels what makes him think he can a kill a man, to which he responds by saying he “read it in a crime novel.” Blissfully, Neeson delivers the line with the same eerily calm, oddly coy wonder he’s brought to his ever-growing list of characters who casually murder dozens of men. Never retire.

Laura Dern will class up the joint a bit as his wife, while Emmy Rossum, Tom Bateman, and, we’re guessing, one helluva snowplow round out the cast. Cold Pursuit—we still can’t believe it—will clear a path into theaters on February 8, 2019.
