Watch Maya Rudolph and Jimmy Fallon “Build A Band” on The Tonight Show

How hard is it to create a band? Apparently, if you’re Jimmy Fallon and Maya Rudolph, not hard at all. On a recent “Build A Band” segment on Fallon’s The Tonight Show, the two easily came up with songs based on just a series of random words, like Cocoa Leather and Salsa Pong.

It helps that both Rudolph and Fallon are musically inclined, able to rattle off the Pet Shop Boys-inspired Cocoa Leather’s bound-to-be-big hit “Tiger Conch,” which involves a lot of looking for said tiger conch. They’re equally adept at the Latin rhythms of Salsa Pong’s “Get Drifter” (once somebody figures out that tossing a verb in there will work better than a noun), in which Rudolph despairs over the drifter who left her at the mall.

Frankly, we think Fallon’s house band The Roots did a lot of the heavy lifting, but it’s still fun to see Rudolph and Fallon act out how they basically used to spend their downtime at Saturday Night Live, according to Rudolph.
