Watch Millie Bobby Brown transform into Eleven in time-lapse of her buzzcut
In the world of Stranger Things, Eleven’s hair—or lack thereof—makes her a “weirdo.” It’s small-town Indiana in the 1980s, so people don’t exactly understand the idea of “looking different,” which is a shame, because Eleven is fierce as hell. She doesn’t need that blond wig that the Wheelers inexplicably have lying around their house. But young actor Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven, doesn’t sport her character’s signature hairdo in her everyday life. In fact, she had hair past her shoulders before going into production for Stranger Things. On Sunday, she posted a video of the momentous occasion of when she shorn her locks to step into her character, and it’s unsurprisingly adorable.
Brown captivates every second she’s on screen in Stranger Things, and she’s just as enchanting to watch in the time-lapsed video of her grand haircut, which is scored by Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts.” She giggles at herself in the mirror, which is much less unsettling than Eleven’s reaction to her own reflection on the show. Brown also makes sure to throw the camera a signature intense Eleven stare after the shave is complete. She knew what the audience wanted before anyone had even seen Stranger Things.
In Entertainment Weekly, Matt and Ross Duffer noted that Millie’s parents were hesitant about the makeover:
Millie and her parents were understandably hesitant to chop it all off. Would it look ugly? Would it cost her other roles? Fortunately, Mad Max: Fury Road was about to come out, so we pulled out a magazine photograph of Charlize Theron as Furiosa and showed it to Millie. “Charlize looks totally badass, right?” Millie agreed; Charlize looked badass. And that was it: She agreed to buzz it all off.
Between Eleven and Furiosa, there are going to be a lot of shaved heads at Halloween this year.
