The new video for Nude Beach's "Some Kinda Love" starts out as a kind of visual bio of the band, cutting back and forth between a live performance of the song and scrapbooked photos of the members' lives as fun facts appear on screen. But it becomes apparent fairly early on that the narrator isn't exactly objective. In fact, he's quite the opposite: a bored and bitter loser whose apparent marital issues and onetime participation in a band of his own ("a cross between Puddle Of Mudd and early Chili Peppers") make it almost impossible for him to stay on task. Watching the video, which was directed by Best Show host Tom Scharpling, becomes an exercise in splitting your attention between a pretty catchy song and an increasingly irrelevant stream of commentary that threatens to destroy any modicum of cohesion. But that's the point, and it's a smart one at that.
