Watch the full pilot for Dan Harmon’s Adult Swim series Rick And Morty
Before Dan Harmon got re-hired as Community showrunner, he had irons in the fire at multiple networks, and got a 10-episode commitment from Adult Swim for Rick And Morty, an animated series about an insane inventor having a bad influence on his grandson. (A recent episode of Harmontown features series co-creator Justin Roiland along with guest stars Sarah Chalke and John Oliver.) Now the full pilot of the show is available to watch on YouTube ahead of the premiere on December 2. The opening minutes set the stage as a blend of Harmon and Adult Swim sensibilities, with inventor Rick stumbling into grandson Morty’s room while carrying a sloshing bottle marked with “XXX,” piling into a spaceship and planning to drop a neutrino bomb on humanity, creating an Adam and Eve scenario for Morty and a girl he likes from school. It’s a zany and ludicrous take on the Marty McFly/Doc Brown dynamic, and Harmon’s assertions that Doctor Who and The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy influenced the show are readily apparent.
