God, doesn’t it just get your goat when movie characters talk to the camera? Well, then you probably won’t like the “Breaking The 4th Wall Movie Supercut” that Leigh Singer has put together for Press Play. Singer really did her due diligence for the compilation, including films ranging from 1902’s The Great Train Robbery to 2007’s Death Proof; the result is an unusually well-edited example of the format. So if you can put aside your disdain for full-frontal eye contact for a few minutes, it’s a fitting tribute to one of the most divisive tools in the filmmaker’s toolbox.
