Watch the trailer for Invincible season two part two before the pizza gets cold
Robert Kirkman’s animated superhero blood bath returns this March
Our long national nightmare is nearly over. Invincible, Robert Kirkman’s ultra-violent animated superhero series, is returning to Prime Video for the second half of its second season. To celebrate, Prime released a new trailer filled with the masked avenger irreverence that fans crave. Between this and the Fantastic Four announcement, cape fans are eating well this Valentine’s Day.
Picking up where last season left off, Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) is living it up on alternate Earth as a Skeletor-looking fellow named Omnipotous is taking his anger out on Earth, leaving it up to The Immortal (Ross Marquand) and the rest of the Guardians Of The Globe to protect it. Now, Mark has to return to space to take out a race of mind-controlling tentacle monsters before they can claim every person on Earth. Meanwhile, Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown) and his weird head are going suit shopping for a meeting with a special friend, which certainly doesn’t sound good.
The trailer certainly doesn’t skimp on the gore. Legs are broken in twain, jelly creatures are turned into mush, and blood is spilled by the gallons. Worse still, the end seemingly teases the death of Mark, which would be a real loss for the show.
We were pretty big fans of the first half of this season. In her review, the A.V. Club’s Saloni Gajjar writes:
Invincible, as always, makes fantastic use of its animation. Take, for example, that big fight scene in episode four that feels like pages of a comic book coming spectacularly to life, with spikes of pink and purple hues. And while these episodes feel noticeably unhurried, it’s nevertheless impressively meditative, preparing us for the next giant step in Invincible’s future.
The second half of season two premieres on Prime Video on March 14, 2024.
