Stop Making Sense, the Jonathan Demme directed “performance film” of the Talking Heads’ 1983 tour, is a musical delight and a visual feast that captured the band at the height of its popularity, but also already in a more settled phase. That’s a different look than this new, full-length concert by the Heads that’s surfaced thanks to the good people at Talking Heads on Music Vault. Shot at Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ, on November 4, 1980–less than a month after the debut of the group’s ground-breaking fourth studio album, Remain In Light–the concert finds the band inhabiting a more raw and rangy sound, ably complemented by future King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew on the axe. Previously only seen in excerpt (video of “Crosseyed and Painless” from this set appeared on the band’s 2011 Chronology DVD), this is a treat for Heads fans and music fans in general.
