We don’t want to squash these first glimpses of Ant-Man And The Wasp costume designs

Despite having perhaps the silliest underlying concept of any non-parody superhero movie in recent memory, Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man was one of the box office successes of the summer of 2015, grossing over $400 million on the strength of Paul Rudd’s eternally boyish charm and the film’s enviable status as a full-fledged part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Last Thursday, Marvel announced that the film would be getting a sequel, Ant-Man And The Wasp, scheduled for release on July 6, 2018. As the title suggests, Evangeline Lilly’s well-received character from the first film, the daughter of the original inventor of the shrinking suit, has now been promoted to co-headliner. Lilly’s character Hope Van Dyne will follow in her mother’s footsteps and assume the tiny, insectoid mantle of the Wasp in the sequel.

This may all be cause for online jubilation, but July 2018 is still nearly three long years away. What to do until then, besides see all the other Marvel movies that will be released in the interim? The answer has arrived in the form of some gorgeous Wasp concept art, which has been surfacing recently on the internet. The recently released book The Art Of Ant-Man contains a few different pictures of the Wasp costume. Better yet, artist Andy Park, a visual development supervisor at Marvel Studios, has been tweeting some very decent Ant-Man concept art lately, including a few of his ideas for the Wasp suit. Here, for instance, is what Park calls a “concept design pass” of the character.

Nice, right? And for those who want to see the Wasp from the back, Park has a picture of that, too.

A picture like that gives fans an opportunity to examine the wing mechanism on the back of the suit, should they so desire. Either way, the countdown to summer 2018 begins now.
