We musn’t dwell: Today is Rex Manning Day
There are a lot of semi-questionable “holidays” these days, from National Cereal Day (March 7) to National Pop Goes The Weasel Day (June 14). And while some of those have fun and/or delicious activities attached—Pi Day, anyone?—no holiday is anywhere near as alluring as the one we celebrate each April 8: Rex Manning Day. That’s right, today marks the day that the onetime Family Way star and satin-shirted sensation made his appearance at the Empire Records store in support of his smash single, “Say No More, Mon Amore.”
While fans of Empire Records know what happened next—a jilted manager, some questionable copy machine sex, and a crush explored—all casual observers really need to know is that today is a celebration of greasy middle-aged men, a dance that kind of looks like you’re turning bike pedals with your arms, and the complete absurdity that was the record industry in the late ’90s.
