We’re ruining this trailer by telling you it’s for Pride And Prejudice And Zombies

One of the great things about watching movie trailers in the theater is that you have no idea what’s coming. In those first seconds, as images and sounds unfold before you, you get to enjoy the increasingly rare feeling of uncertainty, of not knowing what you’re seeing. Crafty trailers can exploit this lack of foreknowledge, playing on your expectations and subverting traditional genre beats. Were that only the case here: Instead, you get to read that this is the U.K. trailer for Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, and have all the hard work the trailer does in its first two-thirds ruined by the advance warning that this is not your usual British period piece. The film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s literary mashup looks to trade on its sassy source material, tweaking the conventions of a stately English drama with its final reveal of our badass zombie-killing heroines. The movie could very well be a lot of fun; unfortunately, we’ve gone and slightly spoiled this trailer simply by dint of giving you the title. But you’ve got until February 5 to be surprised all over again.
