Weekend Box Office

Weekend estimates were too close to call the top box-office earner this holiday weekend, with last week’s No. 1, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, and new contender Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs locked in a dead heat with $42.5 million each. Final grosses, released Monday afternoon, will determine which blockbuster reigns supreme.

The week’s other new release, Public Enemies, scored a solid No. 3 showing with $26.17 million, followed distantly by two comedies: The Proposal at No. 4 with $12.78 million and The Hangover at No. 5 with $10.42 million. Up took No. 6 in its sixth frame with $6.58 million, placing it as the second-highest-grossing Pixar film of all time, behind Finding Nemo. The No. 7 spot goes to My Sister’s Keeper with $5.26 million, with The Taking Of Pelham 123 taking No. 8 with $2.5 million. Another neck-and-neck showdown takes place at the bottom of the top 10, with Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian and Year One duking it out for Nos. 9 and 10, with an estimated $2.1 million each.
