Well, the Olympics are still on
Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Wednesday, August 10. All times are Eastern.
Top picks
Hollywood Medium (E!, 8 p.m.): “In the Season 2 premiere, Melissa Joan Hart is a skeptic-turned-believer when her reading with Tyler reveals a hidden family secret and connects to her deceased father.” Wait a minute. You’re telling us Sabrina The Teenage Witch is a Hollywood Medium skeptic? Is it because she’s experienced real magic, having been a teenage witch? It is, isn’t it. Someone needs to explain it all, soon. Also, there’s a “Snooki Follow-Up.” Yup.
2016 Summer Olympics (NBC, 8 p.m.): What do we got, Olympics on NBC?
In live swimming, U.S. contenders are Nathan Adrian (men’s 100m free final); Missy Franklin and Katie Ledecky (women’s 4x200m free relay final); and Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte (men’s 200m IM semis). Also: men’s gymnastics individual all-around final, with Japan’s Kohei Uchimura the favorite and Sam Mikulak (U.S.) a contender; and Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross vs. a Swiss team in live beach volleyball. Other live swimming includes finals in the men’s 200m breast and women’s 200m fly.
That’s definitely not just a wall of text that makes the Olympics seem less entertaining than they inherently are. Ah, international competition.
Watch What Happens (Bravo, 11 p.m.): Amy Sedaris and Adrian Grenier? Andy, you crazy for this one. But now we finally have a reason to pitch our Strangers With Candy/Entourage crossover spec! Finally! Watch out, Vince—Jerri Blank is coming for you. That should’ve been the case from the very beginning of Entourage.
Premieres and finales
Clash Of Africa’s Giants (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.): “Following a pride of lions over 18 months as they fight for territory in the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa amid extreme weather and unusually violent encounters with elephants that have been weakened by a drought.” We mean, you could just watch The Lion King, but this is perhaps slightly more educational. Perhaps slightly.
Catfish: The TV Show (MTV, 10 p.m.): The sixth season premiere of Catfish, “Lucas & Many,” sees “a former Playboy model discovers that her online boyfriend is fake and may be catfishing other women, too.” Well, maybe not “may be”; the episode is titled “Lucas & MANY.” Sorry for the spoilers, y’all.
