We're totally butt crazy in love with this idea for a Clueless live-reading starring Insecure's Issa Rae
More than two decades later, Amy Heckerling’s Clueless still holds the coveted top spot on our list of The Best Jane Austen Adaptations In Which Someone Totally Surfs The Crimson Wave. Smart, funny, and anchored by Alicia Silverstone at her most effortlessly charismatic (Cher-ismatic?), the movie remains a landmark of ’90s comedy. And now it’s getting a little bit of extra recognition, with Comedy Central announcing today that a live reading of the film will be a major part of this year’s festivities at its annual Clusterfest.
Details about the reading are still somewhat sparing, but we do know at least one name attached: HBO star Issa Rae, lending her talents to the tale of one young woman’s efforts to overcome the tragedy of her mother’s liposuction-assisted death, get a boyfriend who looks exactly like Paul Rudd, and learn how to drive at last. (Also: Between starring in Insecure and now Clueless, is it possible that Rae needs a pep talk or something, vis a vis her taste for adjectival roles?)
Clueless isn’t the only exciting addition to the comedy festival today, either. The fest—which will run from June 21 to 23 in San Francisco this year—will also feature new appearances from Amy Poehler and Fred Armisen, joining a cast that already includes huge names like John Mulaney, Leslie Jones, Patton Oswalt, the cast of My Favorite Murder, and more.
