That Wes Anderson AMA is not real

Considering Wes Anderson is a fairly tight-lipped director, most fans have chosen to view him as, well, a Wes Anderson character: Dry and fastidious, with excellent taste in music. It came as something of a surprise, then, when the filmmaker behind The Royal Tenenbaums, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and the new Isle Of Dogs popped up for a Reddit AMA on Sunday, answering questions not with delicate, quietly emotional quips but rather a zany, self-effacing style that didn’t hesitate to reference the likes of Corky Romano and Tim Allen’s The Shaggy Dog remake. Still, there was a bizarre charm to many of the answers that led many to think they were actually chatting with their favorite filmmaker.

But, alas, it was not to be. The AMA was one of several prank AMAs on Reddit, and, by the looks of it, the only one to fool the platform’s tech-savvy regulars, and more than a few publications throughout the web. (A publicist has confirmed that this wasn’t him.) You can’t really blame them, though—would it surprise you all that much if Anderson said his favorite dogs were “floofs…more commonly known as cloud bois”?

Still, there were plenty of laughs to be found in the AMA, many of which centered around the filmmaker’s seemingly limitless access to Hollywood’s A-list.

Still, it’s a little surprising that no one picked up on the hoax after reading this lyrical ode to Chris Kattan’s butt in the film Corky Romano:

The other prank AMAs are a little more overt, such as this Terrence Malick one about taking over the DC cinematic universe.
