Wes Anderson's next movie is no longer a French musical, but it should have a great cast
In August, we heard that Wes Anderson’s next movie was going to be a musical set in post-World War II France, with a French news site saying that Anderson had been scouting locations over the summer. Now, IndieWire says that Anderson is indeed planning to make a movie about France, but it will not be a musical—which is a shame, considering how outrageous a proper Wes Anderson musical would’ve been.
Thankfully, with that bit of bad news, we do have a bunch of new information about the project. For starters, it’s apparently titled The French Dispatch, and IndieWire says it’s a “love letter to journalists” that’s set at the Paris outpost of an American newspaper and centers on three separate storylines. The site also says that Anderson regulars Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, and Tilda Swinton will star, alongside Anderson newbies Benicio del Toro, Jeffrey Wright, and Timothée Chalamet (because it’s just safe to assume that he’s in every movie now). There are also rumors that Brad Pitt, Natalie Portman, and Léa Seydoux will appear, but IndieWire is less certain about those.
Of course, none of this has been confirmed and we don’t know where this information is coming from, so some/all of it could be wrong, but don’t be shocked when Bill Murray appears in the next Wes Anderson movie.
