Wes Craven also wants in on television’s current horror boom

With every horror franchise from The Omen to The Exorcist to Friday The 13th jumping in the television ring to fight Hannibal and Bates Motel for viewers’ attention, genre master Wes Craven refuses to be left behind. He’s reportedly close to signing a deal with NBC/Universal Cable to produce shows for some of its many cable outlets, such as Syfy.

The news comes while the MTV adaptation of Craven’s Scream is already well underway, with Craven’s involved as executive producer. Craven has some previous experience with developing TV series, having created both the 1989 fantasy sitcom The People Next Door and Nightmare Cafe, a horror anthology that ran on NBC for six episodes in 1992. Nightmare Cafe has since aired on both Syfy and NBC/Universal’s horror and suspense-themed cable channel, Chiller.
