What a dream band would look like if every musician were from your state
Some would argue that the internet has made geography less relevant in music, as a guitarist in Los Angeles is as likely to be influenced by something they downloaded from around the globe as they are by music coming from across town. But regardless, a sense of pride still comes from the music created by a particular region, and a new article on Mic examines what a supergroup would look like if composed by all-stars from each state in the U.S.A.
As expected, some states are dead in the water to start out, with a lack of a rich musical history stemming usually from a smaller population or a lack of thriving artistic communities to encourage musical prominence. Examples include West Virginia, which is relegated to a duo of Brad Paisley and Bill Withers, while Vermont is also a meager two-piece of singers Jojo and Grace Potter.
On the other side of the spectrum, California’s band is pretty insane, consisting of Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry, Travis Barker, Beck, Flying Lotus, Frank Ocean, Courtney Love, Brian Wilson, Jerry Garcia, Nicki Sixx, Snoop Dogg, and, for some inexplicable reason, Adam Levine. Talk about too many cooks. If you think simple is better, try Minnesota, which is just Prince and Bob Dylan exchanging verses, likely creating anything better than 1,000 California musicians could.
