5 things to watch on TV this weekend

Welcome to the weekend edition of What’s On. Here are the big things happening on TV from Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 4. All times are Eastern. [Note: The weekly edition of What’s On publishes on Sundays.]

1. House Of The Dragon fires up its finale

HBO, Sunday, 9 p.m.: House Of The Dragon ends season two in what will no doubt be a calm, chill episode. Just kidding. There’s no way the show wraps up quietly now that Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) has added Vermithor and Silverwing to her roster, Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) has revenge on his brain, and Daemon (Matt Smith) has finally racked up an army. Team Green vs. Black is gearing up for a fight, with Alicent’s youngest son joining the battle (per the trailer). Look for The A.V. Club‘s recap after the episode airs as well as a post-mortem interview with its director.

2. Rebel Moon somehow gets even longer

Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Zack Snyder fans, it’s your time. His film Rebel Moon, released in two parts initially, gets a director’s cut that’s lengthier than the previous runtime. Combined, there’s two hours’ worth of extra footage that promises to be gorier, bloodier, and sexier, with Anthony Hopkins’ Robot getting a larger role, too.

3. Cowboy Cartel digs into a money-laundering scheme

Apple TV+, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: The four-part docuseries Cowboy Cartel has some real Narcos vibes, charting the story of a rookie FBI agent, Scott Lawson, who investigated the Mexican cartel called Los Zetas, which was known for large-scale money laundering through the horse-racing industry.

4. Check out a doc on RRR‘s S.S. Rajamouli

Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: If you loved the 2022 Telegu-language epic RRR, then Modern Masters: S.S. Rajamouli has your number. The documentary, from co-directors Raghav Khanna and Tanvi Ajinkya, takes viewers into Rajamouli’s childhood, how he got into filmmaking (think lots of comic books), and how he’s made some of India’s biggest blockbusters.

5. The Summer Olympic Games press on

NBC: Another week of Summer Olympics coverage airs on NBC and Peacock exclusively, with some big matches in basketball, field hockey, handball, soccer, and table tennis. Check this out for a detailed schedule.
