What's on TV this week—House Of The Dragon ends, The Umbrella Academy returns

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here’s what happening from Sunday, August 4 to Thursday, August 8. All times are Eastern. [Note: The weekend edition of What’s On drops on Fridays.]

The biggies

The Umbrella Academy (Netflix, Thursday, 3:01 a.m.)

Who’s ready to see the superpowered Hargreeve siblings try to stop the apocalypse for one last time? In its fourth and final season, The Umbrella Academy moves to a different timeline to do just that. Viktor (Elliot Page), Luther (Tom Hopper), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Diego (David Castañeda), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), and Five (Aidan Gallagher) must stop the crisis and deal with their (suddenly alive) father. Nick Offerman, David Cross, and Megan Mullaly join the cast for this last batch. Look out for The A.V. Club‘s review of the six-episode season on Thursday.

Mr. Throwback (Peacock, Thursday, 3:01 a.m.)

Steph Curry moves to acting with Mr. Throwback, a sports comedy from the team behind Happy Endings. Curry plays himself, a basketball legend who steps in to help his sixth-grade friend, Danny Grossman (Adam Pally), a memorabilia store owner going through financial issues. As they team up, Curry decides to turn their adventures into a documentary. The ensemble includes Ego Nwodim, Ayden Mayeri, and Layla Scalisi.

Hidden gems

At Witt’s End (Hulu, Tuesday, 12:01 a.m.)

At Witt’s End: The Hunt For A Killer investigates the disappearance and death of Melissa Witt, who vanished in 1994 from an Arkansas bowling alley and whose body was found deep in the Ozarks six weeks later. Even after 30 years, the hunt for the culprit continues, and this four-episode docuseries digs into the mystery with detectives and others involved in the case.

Secret World Of Sound With David Attenborough (Netflix, Wednesday, 3:01 a.m.)

You can’t go too wrong with a nature docuseries narrated by Sir David Attenborough. As the title suggests, Secret World Of Sound is a three-episode examination of how animals use sounds, songs, and voices for survival, mating, and avoiding being hunted (as well as other forms of communication us humans are still trying to decipher).

More good stuff

Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric And Elizabeth? (Max, Thursday, 3:01 a.m.)

There’s another true-crime docuseries this week about an unsolved case, this one on Max: Taken Together unpacks the mysterious deaths of cousins Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook, who disappeared in 2012 and were discovered five months later. And despite around 2,000 leads, to date no one has been charged with their murders.

Summer Olympic Games (NBC and Peacock)

Still riding the high of Simone Biles’ incredible gymnastics win for Team USA? Well, let the mania continue because there are still two weeks of the Summer Olympics left. This week in Paris, expect major track and field events, along with other fun competitions like water polo, sailing, wrestling, and taekwondo.
