Welcome to the weekend edition of What’s On. Here are the big things happening on TV from Friday, March 15 to Sunday, March 17. All times are Eastern. [Note: The weekly edition of What’s On publishes on Sundays.]
1. Tobias Menzies stars in an intense Manhunt
Apple TV+, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Created by Monica Beletsky, Manhunt is a limited series centered on Secretary of War Edwin Stanton’s (Tobias Menzies) pursuit of John Wilkes Booth (Anthony Boyle) after he assassinated Abraham Lincoln (Hamish Linklater). The political drama also features Lovie Simon, Matt Walsh, Betty Gabriel, Brandon Flynn, and Patton Oswalt. Check out The A.V. Club’s review of the show.
2. Lindsay Lohan returns to her rom-com roots in Irish Wish
Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: The movie powers-that-be have bestowed us with a Lindsay Lohan rom-com, so at least some things in the world are going right. In Irish Wish, she plays Maddie, who hopes to find true love as she attends the wedding of her ex-boyfriend and best friend. She wakes up the next day to realize she’s suddenly the bride now—except her true soulmate might be someone else entirely.
3. Wes Anderson’sThe Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar And Three More is here
Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Wes Anderson finally (finally!) won an Academy Award this year for “The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar,” which is already streaming on Netflix, as are three of his other shorts based on Roald Dahl stories. But now you can enjoy them all as a single feature-length film. Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, and Richard Ayoade make up the ensemble.
4. Tom Hanks narrates The Bloody Hundredth
Apple TV+, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: World War II drama Masters Of The Air wraps up on March 15, and Apple toasts the show’s sendoff by debuting The Bloody Hundredth. Narrated by Tom Hanks, the hour-long documentary centers on and honors the real heroes of the 100th Bomb Group, the Air Force outfit that inspired the series.
5. Get weird with Chicken Nugget
Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Well, here’s one of the wildest TV show descriptions of all time. Chicken Nugget is a South Korean drama about Choi Min-ah (Kim Yoo-jung), who mistakenly steps into a machine and turns into… a chicken nugget. It’s now up to her father and her boyfriend to free her from this hell. Unlike other Netflix K-dramas, all 10 episodes release at once.
6. Catch Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour
Disney+, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Taylor Swift is about to bring a whole bunch of viewers to Disney+ thanks to The Eras Tour. The nearly three-hour concert film captures her ongoing titular global trek, featuring performances from all her “eras” (that is, albums). This new version also includes four acoustic tracks that weren’t in the big-screen release.
