5 things you have to watch on TV this weekend
Regina King leads a new biopic, Ramy Youssef drops a standup special, Anatomy Of A Fall hits Hulu, and more
Welcome to the weekend edition of What’s On. Here are the big things happening on TV from Friday, March 22 to Sunday, March 24. All times are Eastern. [Note: The weekly edition of What’s On publishes on Sundays.]
1. Regina King plays Shirley in a new biopic
Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Written and directed by John Ridley, Shirley is a biographical drama led by Regina King (who’s also a producer here). She portrays Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman to be elected to the United States Congress, as she decides to run for President. The ensemble features Lucas Hedges, Terrence Howard, André Holland, Amirah Vann, as well as Lance Reddick in one of his final roles.
2. Ramy Youssef returns with More Feelings
HBO, Saturday, 10 p.m.: In the follow-up to his 2019 HBO special, comedian Ramy Youssef is back with More Feelings. The actor, who recently starred in the Oscar-winning Poor Things, talks about the perils of charity, surviving in a divided world, the importance of prayer, and the upcoming election. The special is directed by The Bear’s Christopher Storer.
3. Hulu drops YA comedy Davey & Jonesie’s Locker
Hulu, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: The Canadian sci-fi comedy Davey & Jonesie’s Locker centers on BFFs Davey (Veronika Slowikowska) and Jonesie (Jaelynn Thora Brooks). They’re the school outcasts, but that changes when they discover their lockers are portals to the multiverse that can zap them to realms where they’re actually popular.
4. Enjoy Anatomy Of A Fall (and “P.I.M.P.”) from home
Hulu, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Oscar-winner Anatomy Of A Fall is finally available to stream thanks to Hulu—and you don’t want to miss it. Directed by Justine Triet, the French legal drama tries to dissect whether Sandra Voyter (Sandra Hüller) murdered her husband by throwing him out of their isolated cabin’s window. Check out The A.V. 5. On Fire tells a terrifying and true tale
Peacock, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: On Fire chronicles Dave Laughlin (Peter Facinelli), who lives in remote Northern California when wildfires tear his world apart, forcing him to go on a harrowing journey to escape along with his young son and pregnant wife. The cast also includes Asher Angel and Fiona Dourif.
