When 'Some Crude Language' Isn't Enough

When 'Some Crude Language' Isn't Enough

One of the problems with advertising an R-rated teen comedy is, undoubtedly, that the R-rated language has to be neutered, sometimes awkwardly, for the trailer. The makers of Superbad (a movie I'm excited about almost solely because it stars Michael Cera) have found a way around this by releasing both a green-band, approved for all audiences trailer, and a red-band, approved for grown-ups and others who can handle hearing the word "tits" trailer.

Here's the tamer, and somewhat sweeter, green-band trailer:

And here's the R-rated version:

We should all start steeling ourselves against the soon-to-be-ubiquitous Superbad references now. "McLovin" will undoubtedly be this summer's "Very niiice."

Honestly, I don't know which one I prefer. They both have their funny moments, and their painfully dumb typical-comedy-trailer moments. But watching them back to back is an interesting exercise, if only because it makes it possible to finally answer that eternal question: "I wonder what this trailer would be like with several more uses of the word 'cock'?"
