Martin has a very specific and distinctive look, a consistent “black-capped Santa Claus in a vest” vibe that’s served him well across any number of interviews and author photos. That wasn’t always the case, though, as per an old photo dredged up by Buzzfeed’s Ryan Broderick, showing that, while Jon Snow might know nothing on most topics, he’s an expert on copping Martin’s old look.
It almost looks like Game Of Thrones star Kit Harrington is doing deliberate cosplay of his character’s creator, right down to the thin spot at the middle of the mustache. We can only hope Harrington will pick up on the similarities and push them harder, because few people could rock a medallion like ’70s-era George R.R. Martin, and that look desperately needs to come back into our lives.
