Whoops, that Vampire Weekend album is actually coming next year

In August, some irresponsible pop culture website reported that there was increasingly strong evidence supporting a theory that Vampire Weekend was getting ready to release some new music before the end of September. It’s been five years since Modern Vampires Of The City came out, so we’re all excited to see what those undead monsters have been up to since 2013, but September came and went without any new Vampire Weekend. Then October came and went without any new Vampire Weekend. Now, it turns out that we’re going to have to keep waiting.

That’s according to GQ, which says the new album won’t be coming until 2019, so it’ll be—at most—another 13 months or so. It’s not entirely bad news, though, as GQ will also be holding a two-day event on December 8 to celebrate its “Men Of The Year” issue that will feature Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig telling stories behind “some of Vampire Weekend’s best songs.” He’ll also be talking about the new album and will probably “play a few songs.”

The larger point, though, is that nobody should be mad at any particular pop culture websites that may have convinced them there would be a Vampire Weekend album in September. If anybody deserves to be blamed, it’s the guys from Vampire Weekend. They’re the ones who didn’t make the album faster. Honestly, we’re blameless in all of this.
