Wil Wheaton to mock ghosts, other things on new “Talk Soup for geeks”

With the rise of shows like The Soup, Talking Dead, and now Bates Motel: After Hours, TV viewers have proven they love shows where famous people talk about stuff. Only not in a talk show format, because, c’mon, it’s 2014.

SyFy is the latest to jump on this bandwagon with a new show tentatively called The Wil Wheaton Project. Despite the name, the show won’t be about the former Star Trek: The Next Generation actor having wacky adventures while working as an OB/GYN in New York. Rather, it will feature Wheaton cracking jokes about various funny things that have happened recently on TV and the Internet.

Ahead of an official SyFy reveal, Wheaton announced the Project in a very lengthy blog post on his own website, describing it as “like Talk Soup for geeks, with a heavy focus on those hilariously bad paranormal reality shows.” Perhaps recognizing that as an extremely specific genre, Wheaton says the show will also cover goofy stuff from scripted sci-fi television, opening the door for him to make fun of pretty much everything else that airs on SyFy. The Wil Wheaton Project (or whatever it ends up being called) is set to premiere on SyFy on May 27.
