Wilco announces Star Wars tour with Angel Olsen, Kurt Vile, and more
Last July, Wilco got in on the whole “surprise album release” trend by dropping its ninth studio album, Star Wars, online as a free download late on a Thursday afternoon. Putting together a world tour takes a while longer though, apparently, as the band is now announcing an extensive run of live shows in support of the album.
Kicking off June 1 in Charleston, West Virginia, the tour almost immediately jumps the pond for Norway, traveling the European festival circuit throughout June and July before flying all the way out to the mountainous tourist town of Yuzawa, Japan, to play the Fuji Rock festival. August sees Wilco snaking its way across the Midwest from Manitoba to Chicago (of course) and then Salt Lake City, then the band takes a break before another run of European dates in October and November.
Some exciting special guests, including Angel Olsen, Kurt Vile and the Violators, Lucinda Williams, and William Tyler, have also been announced for the tour. But don’t get too excited, as most of them—Williams, for example, is only playing with Wilco for one show at Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens—are only coming along for a handful of dates.
You can read The A.V. Club’s review of Star Wars here, and an album stream and full list of tour dates is below.
