Will Arnett answers the prayers of Up All Night fans by developing another comedy about parenting

Will Arnett just barely escaped the crushing whirlpool of retooling that was Up All Night, but the experience was somehow not bad enough to make him swear off TV shows about parenting forever. In fact, he’s already developing another show about kids and the wacky things that parents will do to make them be quiet. This comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which says that Arnett’s new production company, Electric Avenue, has just sold a parenting comedy to CBS. Titled How Not To Calm A Child On A Plane, the series is inspired by the book of the same name written by Johanna Stein. THR says it will be about “a pair of unconventional parents who try to raise their child according to their own rules—not the rules imposed upon them by society at large,” which sounds just like the sort of “fuck The Man” attitude that America’s punk rockers love. It should be a hit among people with mohawks and tattered denim vests. Of course, given the title—which we don’t have the strength to type out again—the way that the unconventional parents do things is apparently the wrong way, so maybe the nation’s squares will like it more than the punks. Hopefully we’ll get a better idea of which side the show is on as it gets further into development.
