Will Ferrell and Adam McKay aren’t planning on a Step Brothers sequel anytime soon

Back in 2013, Adam McKay told The A.V. Club that he and Will Ferrell were going to make a sequel to Step Brothers when they were having trouble getting the Anchorman 2 off the ground. But Ron Burgundy ended up returning to the big screen, and, alas, now it seems that Dale Doback and Brennan Huff may never do the same. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, McKay and Ferrell explain why you won’t see a Step Brothers 2 in the immediate future. “You have to resist the temptation,” Ferrell said. “It’s just tough because the things everyone wants you to do sequels of are special because there’s not a sequel of [them]. I guess we’ll see, but as of now there are no plans. We just don’t want to be doing sequels of everything.”

McKay was a little more optimistic, saying, “Maybe we’d do it in 10 years.” For now, you’ll just have to console yourself by finding a way to attend the real-life version of the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer, assuming it happens again in 2017. And you can take heart in knowing that Ferrell and Reilly are going to play Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, so that should soften the blow.
