Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig’s Lifetime movie is real, will premiere later this month
Back on April 1, we reported that Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig had filmed a satirical Lifetime movie called A Deadly Adoption that was set to air on the actual Lifetime channel later this summer. A day later, Ferrell released a statement saying that he had wanted to keep the project secret until it premiered, and he was so disappointed that it had leaked that he was willing to completely cancel A Deadly Adoption. Some people took this to mean that the entire movie was just an April Fools’ Day joke, and that we had fallen for a classic Will Ferrell prank.
However, you have to be pretty lucky to make a fool out of The A.V. Club. We suspected that there was something else going on there, because it seemed ridiculous that Lifetime would be okay with Ferrell filming an entire movie and then throwing it away for a silly reason. Here’s exactly what we said:
Will Ferrell is swimming in a pool of Get Hard money right at this very moment, so it’s not like he can’t afford to make a Lifetime movie and then just throw it in the garbage, but why would Lifetime be fine with that? At the risk of looking like even bigger fools, we think this is all still part of the game. The original plan was probably to premiere the movie without telling anyone beforehand, but the news yesterday ruined that. Now, we’re willing to bet that Ferrell is saying he has given up on the whole thing just so they can still secretly premiere it with everyone thinking it has been canceled.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a billboard promoting the June 20 premiere of Lifetime’s A Deadly Adoption—starring Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig—has just popped up in Hollywood. The site even has a picture of it, and we all know you can’t fake a picture. In other words, the movie is real, it’s going to air later this month, and—most importantly—we’re not April Fools. The people who doubted us, though, are definitely April Fools.
