Will Ferrell apparently throws a pretty kick-ass drum-off/quinceañera
Comedian Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith have previously parlayed their noted resemblance to each other into a viral Tonight Show clip and a pretty decent cover of “Don’t Fear The Reaper.” But the celebrity doppelgängers apparently weren’t satisfied with mere TV fame, reviving their bitter, percussive rivalry into a full scale battle last night that ended up pulling Devo, the Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins, Stewart Copeland from The Police, and a random 14-year-old boy into the mix. (It was also a quinceañera and a fund-raiser to support people with cancer, apparently, because why just be one thing?)
Other performers at the star-studded event: Jim Gaffigan, Mick Fleetwood, Roy Wood Jr., Nick Offerman, the USC Trojan Marching Band, Fred Armisen, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers themselves, all coming together for a night of comedy, music, and Will Ferrell dance routines in skintight leotards. Funny Or Die has video of at least parts of the event (including the entirety of the drumming competition portion of the evening, which featured Hawkins, Fleetwood, Tommy Lee, Copeland, Armisen, and the aforementioned 14-year-old kid from Brentwood) online, but the moral is clear: if you challenge Will Ferrell to a drum-off, it’s going to escalate quickly; it’s really going to get out of hand fast.
