Will Ferrell improves a Chris Martin set with some much-needed cowbell

Over the weekend, Will Ferrell and Funny Or Die hosted a charity event benefitting the organization Cancer For College that featured a star-studded lineup of comedians and musicians. Of course, everyone knows that when you’re the host of an event you get to do whatever you want, which might explain why, halfway through Chris Martin’s solo performance, Will Ferrell took to the stage wielding his trusty cowbell, a la his often-referenced Saturday Night Live sketch.

Chris Martin didn’t seem too upset about the interruption (almost as if they planned it!) and the two concluded the performance of “Viva La Vida” with a little call-and-response routine. Ferrell continued to make appearances throughout the night, often appearing in-character. He dusted off his Ron Burgundy suit for a Q&A with some of the biggest names in late-night.

He treated the audience to a little twerking in the guise of Donald Trump pretending to be George W. Bush (which sounds confusing but was probably pretty funny). He even helped introduce Brad Paisley as his beer-swilling, sound engineer brother, Gary Paisley.

For fans of decades-old Will Ferrell characters and quality comedy in general, it was a night to remember. Hopefully, any earnest Coldplay fans in attendance were able to have a good time, too.
