Will Ferrell, who’s already locked in to appear as a Shakespearean actor, a wealthy business man headed to jail, and a stepdad (not stepbrother) in a smattering of upcoming films, has added “degenerate gambler” to his list. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ferrell will star in and produce The House, written by Neighbors scribes Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien. The story follows Ferrell’s character and his wife, who team up with their neighbors to start an illegal basement casino after losing their daughter’s college fund.
New Line purchased the script from Cohen and O’Brien, and are said to be targeting an August shoot with Cohen making his directorial debut. The writing duo also wrote the script for the upcoming Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates, which has nabbed Adam DeVine and Neighbors alum Zac Efron as its leads. The House has Chris Henchy and Jessica Elbaum executive producing, and unsurprisingly, Adam McKay will join Ferrell as a producer through their Gary Sanchez banner. If Ferrell seems like he’s biting off more than he can chew lately, don’t doubt the guy—he’s still finding time to participate in drum-offs and yell at professional athletes.
