Will Robinson is still unaware of stranger danger in Netflix’s Lost In Space reboot

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Lost In Space (Netflix, Friday): Yes, it’s likely just coincidence that the Netflix reboot of classic 1960s sci-fi series Lost In Space debuts on Friday the 13th. But you’d be hard-pressed to find an unluckier TV family than the Robinsons, who set off on a world-saving mission to find a habitable planet, only to get knocked off course in space, light-years away from their original mission. We’re not huge fans of gratuitous TV reboots (looking at you, MacGyver), but the increased capabilities in decades-later special effects bodes well for the series, as does the inspired casting of Parker Posey as the nefarious Dr. Smith. Look for Erik Adams’ take on the intriguing new series later today.

Regular coverage

Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (ABC, Friday, 9 p.m.)
Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas (HBO, Friday, 11:30 p.m.): Danette Chavez will be dropping in on the premiere of Cenac’s new HBO show.
Saturday Night Live (NBC, Saturday, 11:30 p.m.)

Wild card

Chef’s Table: Pastry (Netflix, Friday): In an entirely different type of Netflix premiere, Chef’s Table turns its sights to the sweet world of pastry chefs. In each of this season’s four episodes, the series travels from Spain to Italy to the U.S. to Indonesia to explore the complex culinary world these four chefs create. Over at our sister site The Takeout, Dana Cree loved the delicious series, giving it an “A” and enthusing, “Pastry chefs—and I am one myself—rarely share the spotlight with the savory chefs their own work complements… Their relative anonymity means Chef’s Table can do what it does best: dive deep into their psyches to help understand their passion and motivation.”
