Will Smith is jumping out of a helicopter for YouTube

He’s The DJ, I’m The Weirdo Jumping Out Of A Helicopter Over The Grand Canyon would now make an accurate title for a new DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince album, as Will Smith has announced plans to do exactly that as part of a production deal with YouTube. (Jump from a chopper that is, not make a new Fresh Prince album.)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor’s bizarre stunt is part of several new original projects coming to YouTube soon. Titled The Jump Off, it reportedly involves Smith attaching himself to a bungee cord and jumping out of a helicopter over the Grand Canyon to celebrate his 50th birthday. Yes, really. The event will be streamed live on the video-hosting service, and will include a charity component, presumably as a way of making the whole thing seem less insane.

Smith’s live airing of his midlife crisis isn’t the only new programming coming to YouTube. Quantico star Priyanka Chopra is set to host If I Could Tell You Just One Thing, a new series that follows the actor and philanthropist as she travels the world, meeting inspirational people in order to “ask them advice on how to change the world.” No word yet if “Host an ad-supported YouTube series” will be among the advice she receives. These new projects join the already-announced high school basketball docuseries Best Shot and reality comedy series Training Days, wherein comic Jack Whitehall trains with elite soccer players. Unlike shows like the surprising good Cobra Kai, these aren’t YouTube Red shows, meaning they’ll appear on the normal site with advertising support. All of which is much better press for the company than the past year’s steady stream of efforts to restrict exploitative and creepy content on its site.
