As part of his plan to remake all of pop culture in his image, Will Smith has begun prepping to update the musical Annie as a vehicle for Daddy’s little X-chromosome edition Willow, who’s been preparing her whole life to play the singing wind-up plaything for a rich man. The film is only in the planning stages, but Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair” collaborator Jay-Z is reportedly already in talks to work on the music, a business decision seemingly based entirely on the song “Hard Knock Life.” Of course, despite those obvious assumptions, Variety says that there’s no word yet on whether Annie will be a contemporary, hip-hop-ified version or stick closely to the original songs, but come on now.
