Willem Dafoe to menace Billy Bob Thornton and Common in a submarine
Deadline reports that submarine thriller Hunter Killer has found its villain in the form of Willem Dafoe. Dafoe, whose deep nasolabial folds denote evil, will be playing rogue Russian soldier Captain Andropoyov; acting against the orders of, and then kidnapping, the Russian president, Dafoe’s menacing captain will bring the world to the brink of a great war. But the Hunt For Red October-esque plot would be dead in the water without an American submarine full of heroic Americans. As we previously reported, Gerard Butler, Billy Bob Thornton, and Common will be playing the crew of the USS Toledo, who will undoubtedly save the day and boost the ego of anyone from Ohio’s fourth most-populous city.
Hunter Killer is based on the novel Firing Point by George Wallace and Don Keith, and will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale and Green Lantern). Filming is scheduled to begin in July.
