William Friedkin, like many other filmmakers who don’t specialize in farting robots, says he’s setting his sights on television. Recently, Friedkin revealed that he’s adapting his films Killer Joe and To Live And Die In L.A. for TV. Now he’s telling The Playlist that he may lend a hand on a future season of True Detective.
In the interview, conducted at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Friedkin cites Homeland, 24, and True Detective as shows that have replaced hit movies as topics of “coffee machine” conversation. Asked if he would consider working on any of those shows, Friedkin revealed this juicy nugget of information:
“I am considering it. I like [Nic Pizzolatto] very much. I’ve met him, and he’s the real deal as far as I’m concerned. Now, all the new seasons are different so I’m not committed—this new season has nothing to do with the last one. Except for him and his sensibility, which I think is extraordinary.”
Pressed for further details, Friedkin began to backtrack, saying,“I can’t say much more at this time…I’m a huge fan of his writing, I’ve met with him, I like him, I like the direction he’s taking with this.” Friedkin also declined to elaborate on what other topics came up in his meeting with Pizzolatto—for example, how Matthew McConaughey is even more handsome in real life, or how good his hair smells.
