William Shatner and Roberto Orci both deny Star Trek 3 cameo rumors
Both William Shatner and writer-director Roberto Orci have denied recent rumors that the actor will be appearing in the upcoming Star Trek 3. The actor calmly squashed the rumor on his Twitter account, saying, “Let’s talk ST. I don’t know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it’s just rhetoric to cause hype.” Meanwhile, Orci (or at least someone posting as him) appeared in the comments of an article about the cameo rumors at TrekMovie, reminding people that—as a truth-telling philosopher king—they can’t pen him in with their lies and speculation:
“Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller.
The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor.”
So, there you have it: A situation where William Shatner is the calm voice of reason, and someone else acts pompous and bloviating. Feel free to confusedly grasp at your own face, feeling for the little goatee that would indicate we’ve entered a parallel universe.
Star Trek 3 comes out in 2016.
