Rumors have been going around that William Shatner will appear alongside his old frenemy Leonard Nimoy in Star Trek 3, rumors that Shatner dismisses as freneza (that’s Esperanto for “crazy”).
The whole thing came to a head yesterday after Shatner tweeted a cryptic “I’m baaaccck!,” a statement that could have referred to any number of beloved Shatner characters like the Priceline Negotiator or The Big Giant Head from 3rd Rock From The Sun. However, a bunch of Star Trek nerds on the Internet read it as the return of Captain Kirk, because they haven’t experienced betrayal the way Star Wars fans have. Some of them even published blog posts about it. Shatner, angered by the impertinence of these young whippersnappers, swiftly took to Twitter to shut the rumors down:
Let’s talk ST. I don’t know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it’s just rhetoric to cause hype.
